DESCRIPTION

  • Equal to every challenge

The new Oris Col Moschin Limited Edition

During their gruelling training missions, members of the Col Moschin Italian Special Forces unit have tested an essential new tool: the Oris Col Moschin Limited Edition.

Based on the innovative Oris ProDiver it has accompanied these elite troops on 9000m parachute jumps and sea dives in depths of more than 40m.  It has also been tested on draining hikes and missions through inhospitable terrain.  In every situation it proved equal to the challenge. Anti-magnetic properties ensure it remains accurate during flights, 1000m water resistance makes it unbeatable in the water, and the sturdy titanium case with its tungsten top ring and crown protection system make it an awesome force on land.

The patented Oris developed Rotation Safety System is an extra safety element for the seas.

With its camouflage gunmetal colours it won’t blow your cover, but the red, white and green power reserve will make sure you stand out from the crowd.  This also makes clear the link between Oris and the Italian Special Forces.

If you’re a man on a mission this is the all elements watch you’ve been waiting for.

    Technical features

The technical features of the Oris Col Moschin Limited Edition were developed in cooperation with members of the regiment and make it an essential all terrain watch.

The case is made of lightweight titanium, coated with gunmetal grey DLC.  The coating makes the case non-reflecting and helps the Special Forces maintain their camouflage. The case diameter of 49mm, makes it easy to handle and manipulate – even when wearing thick gloves.

The solid construction, the screwed case back as well as the screw down crown are the key elements that give the Oris Col Moschin Limited Edition its extreme water resistance of 100 bar/1000m.

The anti-magnetic properties of all Oris watches make them highly resistant to electromagnetic fields. They conform to the international standards of ISO 764 and its equivalent DIN 8309.  The metal case of the watch acts like a cage and prevents the movement from being affected by these fields.

The tungsten top ring was chosen for three reasons:
    - Durability: the watch is used during missions
    - Ability to withstand extreme temperatures: vital as members of the regiment work in desert zones where it is very hot as well as extremely cold mountain areas.
    - Non-reflecting matt finish

    The Rotation Safety System (RSS)
developed and patented by Oris is an innovation first seen in 2009 on the Oris ProDiver Chronograph that makes this one of the safest divers’ watches there is.  Only when the top ring is lifted can the dive timer be set.  After setting it can be relocked to the case to prevent accidental adjustment.

The adjustable safety clasp allows the strap to be extended or shortened rapidly, without having to remove the watch from the wrist.  This also means the watch can be worn over a wetsuit, ski gloves, or a flight suit, without having to change straps.  The chunky rubber strap guarantees wearer comfort in every situation, is also anti-reflective and highly durable.

Oris and Col Moschin: an expert partnership

During testing for the Oris ProDiver Chronograph during the winter of 2008, Oris enlisted the help of a number of experts throughout Europe to ensure that the ProDiver was the best it could be.  One team of experts was based in Italy as part of the legendary Col Moschin Special Forces.

Always keen to develop new ideas and innovations, Oris gave them ProDivers to test at work.  The aim'  To create an all terrain watch that was durable, practical and our toughest watch to date.

They wore the watches as they jumped out of an aeroplane at 9000m and during a diving exercise where they reached depths of more than 40m. The watches were subjected to low temperatures during a series of Alpine treks and endurance exercises.  At the end of testing they met with the technical and design teams at Oris HQ in Hölstein to present their findings.

The Oris design team looked at their wish list and worked with them to modify the ProDiver into the ultimate all terrain watch. Several prototypes of the new watch were produced and sent back to Italy for testing by the group from the regiment. After a few modifications, the soldiers were happy.

The lightweight, non-reflective, highly water resistant, easily adjustable, comfortable to wear, anti-magnetic Oris Col Moschin is the product of this expert partnership.

At Oris form always follows function, but that doesn’t mean that there’s no room for design features.  The commandoes were keen to incorporate something Italian and the Oris designers proposed a power reserve indicator in the red, white and green of the Italian flag.

To see a list of the key criteria highlighted during the feedback sessions from the Col Moschin commandoes, see the Technical Features Overview.

Col Moschin : an all-terrain regiment Activity overview

The 9th Italian Parachute Assault Regiment is one of very few Special Forces units operating in the sea, on land and in the air.  This unique situation makes Col Moschin one of the world’s toughest regiments. Only the best are selected to be a part of it.

    Air
In order to become a member of the regiment each soldier must prove his ability as a parachute jumper by carrying out hundreds of jumps during two years of training.  He must have the ability to land with pinpoint accuracy, even during difficult weather conditions and when carrying large amounts of equipment. The commandoes jump out of the planes at altitudes of up to 9000m.

    Sea
The commandoes are active both on and under the water. They travel by boat to areas that are difficult to reach.  As divers they use rebreathers (equipment that uses 100% oxygen) to negotiate some of the most inhospitable waters undetected.  Thick wetsuits with gloves are part of their essential equipment as they swim through freezing waters in depths of more than 40m where it is pitch dark.

    Land
Many land missions are carried out in rugged mountain territory.  In summer the heat is stifling and in winter temperatures can drop as low as -45◦C.  The commandoes use military vehicles where possible but often hike miles in order to carry out their next mission.  Maintaining camouflage and the ability to remain still for long periods of time are essential in order to avoid detection.
