Inspiration makes Michel Herbelin reach for the moon
The watch Inspiration is a reinterpretation of the first timekeepers made by Michel Herbelin in the 1950s. Here is a new version… under a new light.
Showcasing classic and sober lines, the Inspiration models are designed for the city man, but more particularly to the dandy who’s passionate about fine mechanics. Indeed, thin rounded bezel, discreet lugs, slightly domed sapphire crystal and ribbed ball-shaped crown set with a cabochon… those are all features that help bringing back the fifties elegance onto the wrist. As well as the convex dial bearing finely drawn baton hour markers and “dagger” hands. The new Inspiration Moon Phase displays all of these aesthetic features.
A brand new watch for Michel Herbelin
As its name suggest, this watch also displays the lunar calendar. Michel Herbelin made history upon announcing its release last November.
Indeed, this is the brand’s first automatic watch featuring a moon phase. Other models display the same feature (e.g. the Newport collection) but with a quartz movement.

It also reflects the desire of the new directors, the third generation of the family business: to introduce more mechanical complications in the watches while keeping a very competitive quality/price ratio. That is the great strength of the brand. And truth be told, at € 1,290, the Inspiration Moon Phase perfectly matches their approach.
The small detail that makes a big difference on the Inspiration Moon Phase
Issued in a limited edition of 500 numbered pieces, the timepiece is a beautiful 40 mm diameter instrument in polished 316L steel.
On the dial, at 6 o’clock, the moon phase rotating disc displays a modern and refined decoration. One has to observe closely to notice a nice detail: the two small stars (that you can see one at a time) are sun satin-finished just like the surface of the dial. A nice touch, don’t you agree?
On the other side, the see-through back reveals the inner workings of a Swiss Made calibre with an engraved Michel Herbelin rotor.
Let’s not forget the discreet date aperture at 3 o’clock, and the beautiful leather strap made in France and hand patinated according to a traditional savoir-faire. Well done!
