Geneva Watch Days 2024 : episode 1/2
At the end of August and the beginning of September, Geneva Watch Days 2024, unveiled jaw-dropping novelties that did not escape Frank Sans C's discerning eye. In this first episode, we take a look at a trio of shock and charm: Gerald Charles, Singer Reimagined and Trilobe.
GERALD CHARLES, Maestro 4.0 Ducati 30° Anniversario 916
perfect symbiosis of the artistic influences of two masters of design, Gérald Charles Genta and Massimo Tamburini, the new Maestro Ducati 4.0 Ducati 30° Anniversario 916 by Gerald Charles, unveiled at Geneva Watch Days 2024, combines watchmaking precision with the world of motorcycling.
he Gerald Charles Maestro 4.0 Ducati 30° Anniversario 916 is a tribute to the 30th anniversary of the legendary Ducati 316 motorbike.
A fine collaboration with the Italian manufacturer Ducati, this edition roars over the asphalt with its automatic calibre featuring an instant anti-clockwise jumping-hour function with concentric central minutes. In the absence of the hour hand, the minutes are displayed in an aperture with a square printed on the inside of the crystal. The exact time is indicated by a small click emitted by the rotating disc. Offering around 50 hours of power reserve and visible through a sapphire back, it is meticulously adorned with colimaçons, Côtes de Genève and beading, and fitted with a gold oscillating weight decorated with a ‘honeycomb’ motif. Limited to just 250 pieces, this is the first of the brand’s skeleton watches to feature this complication, so dear to the famous designer.
Water-resistant to 100 metres, the black marbled forged carbon case is fitted with a matt black ceramic bezel and a screw-down crown with Clous de Paris finish in grade 5 titanium. The dial deserves attention in more ways than one. Through subtle details, it pays tribute to the iconic Ducati 916 motorbike celebrating its thirtieth anniversary. The time appears on a skeletonised motorbike wheel whose golden disc echoes the three-spoke bronze wheel of the legendary racer. The bright red Arabic numerals are covered in red luminescent material, matching the vulcanised rubber strap with Clous de Paris finish on the outside and Gerald Charles logo tapestry on the inside.

SINGER REIMAGINED, Divetrack Automatic 24-H Central Chronograph
Nominated for the Prix de la Montre Sport at the forthcoming Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) to be held on 13 November, the Divetrack Automatic 24-H Central Chronograph from Singer Reimagined has made quite an impression.
Water-resistant to 300 metres, this sporty edition has a 49 mm sandwich case machined from steel and titanium. Located beneath the rotating steel bezel, a ceramic disc, visible through a sapphire crystal at 6 o’clock, reveals the time by means of luminescent numerals and hour markers.
Fitted with a helium valve, the reference model features a contrasting black dial with luminescent numerals and hour markers, and an imposing orange hand that tracks the progress of dives. But that’s not all! And this is where the instrument becomes an indispensable tool for divers. It not only monitors immersion times, but also provides information on ‘surface intervals’.
Here’s how it works. The central 24-hour sub-counter is divided into three distinct zones. ‘CHILL’ from 0 h to 6 h determines the surface interval before the next dive based on the duration of the last dive, depth and frequency. ‘DIVE’ from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. indicates when the person can dive again after following the recommended surface interval. ‘FLY’ from 18:00 to 24:00 refers to the time after the dive. This sector marks the time to be respected before taking the plane in order to avoid any health problems (18 hours required by PADI, the Professional Association of Diving Instructors). Served on a rubber strap or Velcro diving textile, the reference beats to the rhythm of a self-winding movement offering a power reserve of around 72 hours.

TRILOBE, Nuit Fantastique Ombre et Nuit Fantastique Lumière
Like Ying and Yang, the Nuit Fantastique Ombre et Lumière editions from the Trilobe watchmaking house play the black and white card. Their contrasting colours are nonetheless complementary.
While the former features a grained black dial and concentric white sunray rings, the latter responds with a white dial and black counters. ‘Making light emerge from the shadow‘, the mantra of the painter Jean Dubuffet, runs through the veins of these new references inspired by art brut. Available in 38.5 mm and 40.5 mm versions, the timepieces are water-resistant to 50 metres and crafted in grade 5 titanium.
Supplied on a black leather strap, they feature the X-Centric calibre, the famous movement imagined and developed by Trilobe. It powers three rotating rings, each indicating a gradation of time. The largest ring on the circumference of the dial corresponds to the hours, while the minute ring appears in an aperture above the seconds wheel, whose clous de Paris centre is surrounded by a slightly azure ring.
