Omega Speedmaster event at Colette in Paris
No watch brand is more closely associated with space exploration than OMEGA and Colette invites you to begin a new chapter of its famous chronograph.SPEEDMASTER.
The original Omega Speedmaster was introduced in 1957. Being a real object of fascination, the OMEGA Speedmaster has been the choice of astronauts and space agencies for more than half a century. In fact, it has been associated with some of humankind’s greatest extra-terrestrial adventures and therefore, has earned the nickname of “the Moonwatch”.
«That’s one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind»
Astronaut Niel Amstrong* became the first human to walk on another world when he climbed down the Eagle’s ladder and set his left boot on the surface at 2:56 UTC July, 20, 1969. Fifteen minutes later, Buzz Aldrin stepped on the lunar surface wearing a Speedmaster Professional, the first watch worn on the Moon.
«Houston, we have a problem»
On April, 17, 1970, the world held its breath: the Apollo 13 command module splashed down in the South Pacific Ocean, after a severe malfunction on its journey to the moon at more than 300,000 km from Earth. But the lunar landing was aborted and the crew needed to align the spacecraft correctly to perform the free-return trajectory maneuver into Earth’s atmosphere. The Speedmaster chronograph was instrumental in getting Apollo 13 crew back to Earth safely. In recognition of this, Omega was awarded NASA’s Snoopy Award.
A surprise awaits you at Colette! Be the first to discover something new about this legendary chronograph.
