Hublot and WBC with boxing legends for a charity gala evening

On May 3rd in Las Vegas, Hublot and the World Boxing Council (WBC) celebrated their long-standing partnership at the “Night of Champions”. This event, attended by the greatest living boxing legends, raised funds to support the boxers who hung up their gloves and are in trouble.

A gala dinner was held at the Encore Hotel with the presence of the greatest boxers such as Mike Tyson, Sugar Ray Leonard, Evander Holyfield, Lenox Lewis, Julio César Chávez, and many other celebrities, such as musician Carlos Santana, all gathered for an auction to benefit the “WBC José Sulaimán Boxers Fund”. Created in 2012 by the Swiss watchmaker and the WBC, this charitable association aims to protect the safety, health and well-being of athletes as well as to help retired athletes overcome their financial and medical difficulties (housing, living expenses and medical costs).

The event was a success with $1.2 million raised through original and unique auction prizes, including a private boxing lesson with a WBC champion, the latest known glove signed by Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, throwing the first pitch for one of the top MLB teams (Major League Baseball) and a pair of shoes signed by Kobe Bryant.

On this occasion, Hublot presented two variations of its iconic Big Bang Unico watch, one in green ceramic and skeletonized black dial (which was offered to each of the champions), the other in 18K yellow gold and green ceramic. Two very beautiful instruments, limited respectively to 100 and 50 pieces, some of which have already been purchased during the evening to participate in the amount of funds for the “WBC José Sulaimán Boxers Fund”.

Inspired by the emblematic design of the WBC belt, the 45 mm diameter Big Bang Unico WBC, with a predominantly green colour, feature a Unico self-winding chronograph movement. Protected on the back by a green ceramic background for one, and yellow gold and green ceramic for the other, this calibre reveals its gears on the front side. Equipped with the “flyback” function, it allows the reset of a current timing and the simultaneous launch of a new one in a single operation. Combined with green alligator and black rubber straps, these models will seduce collectors of beautiful, robust and sporty engines, who have a passion for the “noble art” screwed into their hearts.
