Piaget wins the “Aiguille d’Or”!
Due to pandemic-related sanitary measures, the 20th edition of the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) was a socially distanced one… with an audience made of balloons! A strange atmosphere which did not prevent the event – exceptionally transformed in a true digital show – from being followed live on the web by many aficionados of beautiful mechanics.
Organized with brio by the vivacious Edouard Baer, the GPHG 2020 award ceremony recompensed the best pieces selected by the jury, divided into eighteen categories.
The most significant of the contest, the coveted “Aiguille d’Or”, was awarded this year to Piaget for the Altiplano Ultimate Concept.
To know every technical secret of the Altiplano Ultimate Concept, the thinnest mechanical watch in the world – thickness of only 2 mm! – see our detailed datasheet.
The other awards-winners are: Bovet 1822, Bulgari, Breitling, Charles Girardier, Chronométrie Ferdinand Berthoud, H. Moser & Cie, Greubel Forsey, Parmigiani Fleurier, Petermann Bédat, Tudor, Van Cleef & Arpels, Vacheron Constantin and Voutilainen.
And we shall not forget the winner of the Special Jury Prize, which awards an influent player of the watchmaking world. It was bestowed to Antoine Simonin, instructor and expert in watchmaking, editor, and director of the WOSTEP Foundation (independent Swiss watchmaking institution).
