A new Chanel ambassador premieres with a Première
Channel reinterpreted its very first watch, the Première Édition Originale. True to the identity of the Maison, the watch can now be seen on the wrist of the actress and house ambassador Lily-Rose Depp. Both free, bold, and timeless, the Chanel muses open the watchmaking season.
The Première: an icon among icons
J12, BOY·FRIEND, Code Coco… The Première is part of the great family of Chanel icons, but on a larger scale, it is also an emblematic watch amid the watchmaking sphere. It can be distinguished by its octagonal case inspired by the shape of the place Vendôme – which Gabrielle Chanel used to admire from her suite at the Ritz – and by the shape of the N°5 perfume cap. This iconic watch makes light of the codes of an entire generation.
This watch symbolizes a deliberate feminine freedom, and it reveals itself on the wrists of women with a design especially created for them – for it. This watch was designed in 1987 by the late Jacques Helleu, famous Chanel art director, and it is the very first watchmaking creation of the brand. It is a revolution in many ways, and it stands out by its simple but recognizable silhouette in keeping with the brand’s DNA.

A timeless design
Thirty-five years later, director of the Chanel Watch Creation Studio Arnaud Chastaingt reinforces the timelessness of the design with the revealing of a new version inspired by the original design.
The emblematic yellow gold-plated steel chain bracelet – intertwined with the black leather ribbon of the famous quilted handbag – enhances the Première Édition Originale. This watch is made up of a yellow gold case (26,1 x 20 x 7,65 mm) with a gold-plated steel crown and an onyx cabochon. The black lacquered dial is the perfect association of black and gold with no unnecessary embellishments. The hands are animated by a quartz movement of fine Swiss craftmanship. The golden hands are the stars of the sleek two-tone background which appears through the finely beveled crystal.

The new face of Chanel
