Dials: not just a pretty face
Who’s the fairest of them all? We’re spoiled for choice with all the variations of the new De Ville Prestige from Omega. Beyond ultra-accurate and high-performance calibres, the dials are truly worth a look. Sun-brushed, crystal or embossed with a “Clous-de-Bienne” pattern, these delicate and subtle adornments are mesmerising.
De Ville Prestige, new generation
This timeless collection – launched in 1994 – is a worthy heir to the Seamaster De Ville. It is more subdued than its counterparts, the Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional and the Seamaster. However, it remains one of Omega’s iconic collections. This year, the Swiss maison is bringing it back in the limelight. 2022 chimes the bell of revival for this watch, both mechanically and aesthetically.
De Ville Prestige, elegance in motion
This third generation of timepieces for ladies and gents now boasts Master Chronometer certification (for the mechanical models). This is a testament to their accuracy, their performance and their magnetic resistance. The collection counts no less than four different calibres, each with its own functions. Mechanical with power reserve and small-seconds display, small-seconds display, three-hand display, and quartz. These movements are used in a wide assortment of variations: diameters (41, 40, 34, 30, and 27.5mm), cases (Sedna™ gold, steel, yellow gold, and dual-coloured) and bracelets (Sedna™ gold, steel, yellow gold, leather and shimmering leather). A wealth of eye-catching precious dials completes this collection.
Masterful dial design
The dials are subtly hollowed underneath, housed in the signature “triple-apple bassine” case and protected by a domed sapphire crystal. This complex engineering process lends depth and intensity to the time display. The Roman numeral markers and the hands are also slightly curved, to create a most harmonious overall look. The painstaking work carried out in Omega’s ateliers for the finishes and the colours deserves special mention.
Some dials are sun-brushed, while others are embellished with Omega’s 2-in-1 signature technique: a random vertical pattern with a sun-brushing finish. Luminous.
Dials also come in Tahiti or white mother-of-pearl. However, the “Clous-de-Bienne” pattern is a firm favourite and a clear standout, that makes the watch truly unique.
Lavender, light blue, salmon pink, matcha, pine or dark green, burgundy, silvery, Moonshine™ or Sedna™ gold, grey or black… This cornucopia of colours is a feast for the eyes. All you want to do is start a collection.
