Jaeger-LeCoultre proud sponsor of Hong Kong Polo Team
On December 5th, Asia World Polo organized the “Polo After Dark” event at famed club Boujis, Hong Kong, to pay tribute to polo and to present the new Hong Kong polo Team. Continuing a long tradition and standing affiliation with the world of polo, Jaeger-LeCoultre is proud to sponsor this event and the debut of Hong Kong polo team.
Asia World Polo is thrilled to be re-igniting this sport of kings to Hong Kong, firstly by establishing the polo team. Over 200 guests were greeted by the founder of Asia World Polo and instigator of the team, David Savage and the polo players, who recently returned from their first tournament in Pattaya, Thailand.
Debut of the first Hong Kong polo team has been officially announced in the evening. The newly-formed player team included members Raphael Le Masne de Chermont, Kwan Lo, Aron Harilela, Patrick Furlong, Paul Cheung, Lynly Fong, Roland Buser, Max Gottschalk, Russell Tyre and James Hughes.
“Our intention is to raise awareness of this incredible sport, build a new fan base and ultimately reintroduce polo into Hong Kong through events whilst catalyzing the development of a Hong Kong Polo Club.” David Savage, Asia World Polo Ltd.
Highlight of the evening was a charity auction, which proceeds fully benefited Riding for Disabled (RDA). This non-profit-making organization aims to teach disabled children and some adults to ride a horse to the best of their ability. An iconic Reverso – Grande Reverso Ultra Thin – engraved with logo of Asia World Polo at the case back was sponsored for this auction.
Ever since 1931, the ties between the legendary swiveling case and polo have remained ingrained in the very fibers of the Reverso, which has proved capable of constantly evolving and adapting to each new era.
Jaeger-LeCoultre and Polo
To create an elegant watch capable of surviving a polo match: that was the challenge set by British colonial army officers based in India that plunged Jaeger-LeCoultre into the world of polo. In 1931, Jaeger-LeCoultre launched a watch whose reversible case made it possible to protect the dial and the glass by exposing only the metal back to possible impacts. The Reverso was born. The purity of its Art Deco-inspired lines as well as the refined nature of its case, providing a dedicated space for personalisation, have made it an iconic watch well beyond polo fields the world over.
Since the birth of the Reverso in 1931, the ties uniting Jaeger-LeCoultre and polo have been consistently strengthened. Jaeger-LeCoultre has associated its name with the biggest international events and particularly in Argentina, where the brand has been supporting players and their teams through benefit gala dinners and charity polo events for more than ten years. Relationships established with players such as Eduardo Novillo Astrada, Luke Tomlinson and Clare Mountbatten, Marchioness of Milford Haven, all longstanding Jaeger-LeCoultre ambassadors, are living proof of the values Jaeger-LeCoultre shares with the world of polo.
