“Shaping Materials” in Milan
After the opening of its AP House in Milan at the beginning of the year, Audemars Piguet reinforces its local ties with Milan by revealing its new exhibition. “Shaping Materials” is held from 3 to 16 June 2024 at the Hotel Portrait Milano, the occasion for the watchmaking manufacture to (re)affirm its commitment towards creativity and heritage.
In the heart of the exhibition
By its historical heritage and its artistical creativity, Milan, centre of the fashion and design world, appears to be the perfect city and in total adequacy with the subject “Shaping Materials”. While putting the emphasis on their desire to always go further on technical and innovative matter, Audemars Piguet shapes this retrospective by presenting the essential steps for the transformation of raw materials by watchmaker masters into watches elements.
Titanium, ceramic, carbon, platinum or gold, the different matters hold no secrets anymore for Audemars Piguet. The brand even recently released a Royal Oak Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon Openworked in sand gold – a new 18-carats gold alloy composed of palladium and coper. The journey into the exhibition keeps on going by confirming the brand status as a watchmaker of shape watches.
Using traditional round, squared or rectangular cases, the brand loves to wander off the beaten tracks to explore less conventional geometries such as trapeze or octagonal. Those timepieces coming from current or heritage collections are showcased in the five spaces composing the exhibition. Visitors are entirely immerged in the heart of a great Maison, in the heart of Milan …
In the heart of Milan
The golden pavilion housing the exhibition stands out by its shimmering surface and its hypnotic light effects. Pure symbiosis between History and modernity, the building establishes a dialogue with the baroque architecture of the former archiepiscopal seminary surrounding the Piazza del Quadrilatero. This city’s iconic building was recently bought by the architects Michel Lucchi and Michel Bönan. Formerly housing a bookshop, a printing house, a hospital and a school, the building houses nowadays the Portrait Hotel, restaurants and luxury boutiques. A lively and unmissable place in the city.
