TAG HEUER x PORSCHE: a “Limited Edition” for Opus 2
A new chapter in the collaboration between TAG Heuer and Porsche opens today with the TAG Heuer Carrera x Porsche Limited Edition. Certainly not the last, given the enthusiasm of the teams from each maison to sublimate this partnership!
I was lucky to be invited, a few days ago, in Lapland, to wear this beautiful TAG Heuer Carrera x Porsche on my wrist. I also had the chance to try out the Porsche range on frozen lakes to get used to make drifting car (Ed.: controlled skids).

OPUS 2
TAG Heuer and Porsche share a common history with the name Carrera. A mythical name is related to a Mexican road race: The Carrera Panamericana. The TAG Heuer Carrera watch and the Porsche Carrera are both icons in their own category.
Therefore natural that after a long engagement – with this permanent commonality – the two brands have finally decided to get married. I refer you to the article on Opus 1 to understand the reasons if it was still necessary to highlight them.
LIMITED EDITION
For this “second baby” some would say, it is clear that it is as successful as the first. The stylistic attributes remain and the colours change. Small details too, which in fact are not details at all.
If yellow is omnipresent on this piece, it is a reminder that Porsche’s yellow colour is only used for the sportiest cars which trigger the strong emotions daily (the GT4 in the video is yellow, isn’t it?).
Therefore, it is found in the Porsche logo on the bezel, as well as on the crown and in some graphic touches on the dial, on the second hand and at the back of the case middle. This color is also the color of the Super-LumiNova, which glows yellow in the dark.
Last detail but not least for this TAG Heuer Carrera x Porsche, a very beautiful strap that uses the double stitching of the Porsche leather interiors. The thread is yellow, obviously.
DIAL TEXTURE
The dial is very different from what is on the Opus 1. Indeed, it partly has this « asphalt » look in the small dials but is adorned with deep black like the one found on the Porsche’s bodywork. The expert eye micro glitters, the same as on the Porsche paints. The case is also covered in black with a colour supported and reinforced by the DLC coating.
THE CALIBRE
Since we have to talk about it, let’s talk about it, but there is nothing new under the sun of Lapland: it is the calibre Heuer 02, with an oscillating weight in the shape of a Porsche 3-spoke steering wheel. Why change the mechanics when you have such an engine. Composed of 168 parts, including a column wheel and a vertical clutch, it is equipped with a great power reserve, in other words: 80 hours when fully wound. Entirely manufactured in-house by the TAG Heuer manufacture in Chevenez, its chronometric performances are to be highlighted.
THAT IS DEBATABLE
Produced in a limited edition, the TAG Heuer Carrera x Porsche Limited Edition is engraved the note One of 1 500. Personally, I prefer when limited editions are numbered. But I must admit that not numbering the cases avoids the frustration of some collectors. So, it is debatable…
