The year is off to an unforgettable start with Dior’s Grand Bal de Toile de Jouy. This precious watch is the manifestation of the Maison’s expertise and a charming addition to an iconic collection. This watch is a true prima donna with many variations since its creation in 2011.

The Dior Grand Bal de Toile de Jouy takes centre stage thanks to its patented Dior Inversé automatic movement oscillating mass. The French ‘inversé’ means reversed and aptly describes the position of the oscillating mass, which instead of appearing on the case back is placed in front, on the dial. Twirling with the most delicate flick of the wrist, this watch is as hypnotizing as spinning ball gowns.
The wardrobe of a 1001 gowns
The Dior Grand Bal watch is at the center of a constellation of reinterpretations. Stargazers have spotted it twisting through the night with woven golden strings, adorned with feathers or fishnet motifs set with diamonds, wrapped in silk, clad in mother-of-pearl lace, and even with scarab elytra – the protective wings of certain insects. The language of ‘Haute Couture’ is no doubt at play in this collection. The Toile de Jouy motif that covers this miniature work of art – one of the founder and fashion designer Christian Dior’s most cherished motifs – was reimagined by Maria Grazia Chiuri, the artistic director of the women’s collection.
A winter waltz
This rendition of the Grand Bal sports a luxurious 36mm stainless steel case and a yellow gold Toile de Jouy motif that evokes a lush garden under a blanket of snow.
The motif unfolds across the dial and the beautifully decorated yellow gold oscillating mass covered in incredibly realistic leaves and flowers, and set with 103 brilliant-cut diamonds, sapphires, and mother-of-pearl beads. Further emanations of the freezing winter months are the yellow gold snow-set bezel and the icy sapphire crystal of the case back. The delicate details speak volumes.
This timepiece is also available with an additional interchangeable strap in black alligator skin.
