Hamilton and aviation, a linked history

Funded in 1892 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Hamilton shares its history with the watches which accompanied the pioneers of aviation. The Maison which celebrated in 2018 its 100th Anniversary of aerial timing can be proud to have guided numerous pilots in their cockpit. Indeed, in 1918 its flight instruments were the official chronometers of the first postal flights between Washington, Philadelphia and New York.

In 1926 as well, a model of the watchmaking brand timed the first flight to the North Pole. Strong from its expertise on the matter, Hamilton became the official brand of the four main flight companies in the United-States. Over the decades, the brand developed numerous partnerships with military squadron, air rescue services, aerobatic teams and with what interests us today, aerobatic pilots from all around the globe like Nicolas Ivanoff.

This new watch squadron is composed of seven models. Four are in 36 mm and three in 42 mm. Faithful to the adventure spirit of the Khaki line, the 36 mm watches house the H-10 automatic calibre and the 42 mm the H-30 calibre which displays in addition day and date in an aperture at 3 o’clock. Both watches offer an 80-hour power reserve and are equipped with a non-magnetic spiral Nivachron™.

The hands are covered with Super-LumiNova® Grade X1.

As in every pilot watch, each piece stands out by the legibility of its dial. The triangle at 12 o’clock is luminescent, the hands are big and covered with Super-LumiNova® Grade X1, which luminescence duration is superior to a classic coating.

In addition, the index are set on the rehaut to give some space to the minutes numbers, bigger than the hours’ and placed below the minutes.

The 36 mm editions are available in a steel-on-steel version, with a night blue or black dial. More trendy and feminine, the steel model with a PVD rose gold coating is in perfect harmony with the dial’s intense shade of blue and the strap in old rose leather. The watch with the silver dial and white leather strap is perfect for this summer.

Both 42 mm versions adorn a neo-vintage style. For one, a khaki dial and a double hole brown leather strap – characteristic of Hamilton’s watches –, for the other, a silver dial and a light brown leather strap.
