DESCRIPTION

  • Automatic Cap Camarat

    Understatedly French

Originally launched in 2018 by the Michel Herbelin French Watchmaking Studio, an updated version of the Cap Camarat could now be yours. Adorned with a blue flange on a white dial and enlivened by a red small seconds hand, this automatic French-made timepiece modestly reveals its heritage, while retaining its 70s feel. Its handsome sporty chic look epitomises French elegance without ostentation.

    Seventies legacy

Embracing the colours of the French flag, the Cap Camarat nevertheless remains faithful to the aesthetic of the collection, inspired by a 70s heritage watch design from Michel Herbelin. Rooted in the fashion of the era, the brand has also interpreted the concept of the "sporty chic" watch in its own way. Characterised by a case with visible screws, sharp angles and a built-in strap, it has become a classic from those years when a more casual lifestyle emerged.

Combining this heritage with the present day, the Cap Camarat features a steel case measuring 40.5 mm in diameter. Enhanced by vertical brushed and polished facets, its hexagonal shape is softened by the roundness of the bezel, finished with six decorative screws. Its impressive durability bolstered by crown protection, the watch also features a white dial with a horizontal stamped pattern. Protected by a sapphire crystal, the bevelled hour markers and the rectangular faceted hour and minute hands accentuate the Seventies-inspired design. Silvered and coated with a luminescent substance, the latter are further enhanced by the red central seconds hand, which travels through a clearly readable minutes scale, located on the encircling blue flange. Complete with date aperture at 6 o’clock, this new Michel Herbelin timepiece is water-resistant to 100 metres and is easy to read, even in low light.

In a typically 70s style, the stainless steel strap that forms part of the case is a perfect complement to this sleek watch. Incorporating the French brand’s signature four links with a polished and brushed finish, a double-folding clasp provides the final touch.

    An ever-dependable movement

Designed, assembled, regulated and quality checked at the Michel Herbelin studios that have stood in the Jura mountains of the Franche-Comté region for close to 75 years, the Cap Camarat is powered by a Swiss-made automatic mechanical movement (Sellita). A true mark of quality and precision, it clocks 28,800 vibrations per hour, features 26 jewels and benefits from a 38-hour power reserve. Watchmaking enthusiasts will appreciate the transparent case back, which allows for the workings of the mechanism to be observed, including the Michel Herbelin engraved oscillating weight.

An excellent choice for men who enjoy all sorts of activities, whether they are sporty or urban-inclined. The Cap Camarat is a wonderful example of watchmaking tradition stretching back nearly 75 years.
