THE GREEN- DIAL IWC SCHAFFHAUSEN INGENIEUR AUTOMATIC 40 INSPIRED BY THE WATCH WORN BY MAIN CHARACTER SONNY HAYES IN F 1® THE MOVIE

Schaffhausen/Geneva, 1st April 2025: IWC Schaffhausen introduces a special edition of the Ingenieur Automatic 40 with a green dial at Watches and Wonders Geneva. Limited to 1000 pieces, it takes inspiration from the watch worn by the main character Sonny Hayes in Apple Original Film’s upcoming movie, F1®. Portrayed by actor Brad Pitt, the veteran racing driver sports a customised version of the Ingenieur SL Reference 1832, with a dial in his signature green colour.

Apple Original Film’s F1® is among the most anticipated movie releases in 2025. Shot with the actors driving actual race cars and against the backdrop of real Grand Prix™ races, the movie promises to bring the adrenaline, drama and action of Formula One™ to the big screen like never before. It stars Brad Pitt as Sonny Hayes, a former driver who returns to Formula One™ alongside Damson Idris as his rookie teammate on APXGP, a fictional team on the grid. In the movie, Sonny will be wearing a bespoke watch based on the Ingenieur SL, Reference 1832, with a striking green dial, representing Sonny’s signature green colour. This prop watch is the result of a collaboration between IWC Schaffhausen, Brad Pitt and Cloister Watch Company, a design studio that specialises in creating bespoke timepieces from vintage watches.

The bespoke movie watch has now served as the inspiration for a special edition of the Ingenieur Automatic 40 (Ref. IW328908), with a stainless steel case and bracelet. Limited to 1000 pieces, it features a “Grid”-patterned green dial with gold-plated appliques – a similar colour code and combination that is worn by Hayes in the movie. The gold-plated hands and metal markers are filled with Super-LumiNova®, ensuring perfect legibility. A hallmark design feature of the Ingenieur is the characteristic bezel, which is secured to the case ring with five functional screws. Offering exceptional wearing comfort, the integrated bracelet with a butterfly folding clasp attaches to the case via its middle links. The Ingenieur Automatic 40 is powered by the IWC-manufactured 32111 calibre with a power reserve of 120 hours and 10 bar water resistance. In keeping with the tradition of the Ingenieur, a soft-iron inner case effectively shields the movement against the effects of magnetic fields.

Apple Original Film’s highly anticipated movie, F1®, was directed by Joseph Kosinski and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, Kosinski, famed Formula One™ driver Lewis Hamilton, Pitt, Jeremy Kleiner, Dede Gardner and Chad Oman. In addition to Brad Pitt and Damson Idris, the cast also includes Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, Kim Bodnia, and Javier Bardem. Ehren Kruger wrote the screenplay, and the film was executive produced by Daniel Lupi.
