  • BASELWORLD 2007 ~ THE WATCH AND JEWELLERY SHOW

CREATIVITY, INNOVATION, CULTURE: 2006, YEAR OF ACHIEVEMENTS

Energised by its own corporate philosophy and the resources of its exceptional heritage, Breguet ended 2006 with the elation of accomplishment. Matching success with success and challenge with breakthrough, the company has pursued its upward march, confirming its legitimate place as the leading name of Haute Horlogerie.

Corporate results for 2006 collectively reflect its impressive vitality and the drive that has sustained it over the past seven years. Carefully preserving the brand’s heritage and identity, its creations embody market expectations, precisely reflecting the spirit of the times. A case in point is the TRADITION collection, introduced in 2005 and immediately acknowledged by the industry as a turning point both in aesthetic design and in constructional concept, with Model 7027 earning numerous distinctions both in Switzerland and abroad.

Breguet’s exceptional rate of grown, far superior to the Swiss watch industry average, has propelled it to the forefront of the luxury watch sector. In 2006, the brand continued to develop briskly and to prosper, its very large increase in revenue for the year matched by a no less revealing growth in unit sales. These buoyant results are underpinned by improved access to major markets in Asia (India and China) and Latin America (Bolivia) as well as continued expansion in mature markets such as Europe, the United States and the Middle East, not to mention whi te-hot growth in Nordic markets.

At the same time, projects initiated in 2006 played a pivotal role in the company’s growing influence, pacing its exceptional expansion. The worldwide string of showcase boutiques totally dedicated to the Breguet brand universe now includes Beverly Hills and Dubai while Geneva’s has marked its first full year of operation. 2007 will see Nicolas G. Hayek inaugurate superbly appointed premises on Place Vendôme in the heart of Paris: 400 square metres combining a museum and a boutique. A boutique is also scheduled to open in Tokyo while a museum presenting recent and period Breguet timepieces is planned for Geneva, testifying to Nicolas G. Hayek’s unremitting hunt for, and acquisition of, antique and period Breguet watches to build up its physical patrimony.

At the production level, Manufacture Breguet has benefited from major investments for renovation and expansion with which to cope with the frenzied pace of incoming orders. More than 2,000 square metres of floor space have been added to production facilities to provide assembly operations with much-needed room. Equipment, tooling and production management software have all been updated to include the latest improvements and upgrades. A major hiring programme aimed at securing the services of highly trained operatives as well an in-house training scheme for young watchmakers have given production capacity a considerable boost.

Its determination to improve production efficiency is matched by Breguet’s equally understandable desire to stimulate its creative processes by investing heavily in research and innovation. In tandem with Swatch Group facilities, Breguet’s R&D department has produced major breakthroughs both in the design and development of new movements and the choice of novel constituent materials. In 2006, Breguet’s decision to fashion various movement parts in silicon opened promising perspectives to the watch industry. The design of its highly efficient selfwinding calibre 777, for example, is a case in point, and timepiece 5177 featuring the 777 movement won the Public’s Prize at Geneva’s Grand Prix d’Horlogerie. What’s more, along with the plaudits garnered by the TRADITION collection, the CLASSIQUE Grande Complication 5347 introduced in 2006 made heads turn and experts take notice. It salutes in spectacular fashion one of A.-L. Breguet’s major inventions, the tourbillon, here working as a pair and rotating in tandem. Developed after years of effort, this exceptional design is protected by three patents.

While its horological wizardry incorporates centuries of inherited and lovingly cultivated expertise, Breguet has for years now made its mark as a master jeweller of nomean ability. Along with turning out watches displaying a distinctive jewellery character, it has collaborated with the DYB firm to design and make a collection of jewellery suites embodying the spirit of Breguet. Presented as part of major international functions in Lucerne and Tokyo, the collection was enthusiastically received.

Over and above its creative exuberance born of its innate corporate vitality and investments in technological innovation, Breguet’s image and identity are deeply rooted in the culture and the destiny of Europe. With its own history interwoven with that of countless major historical figures, Breguet is an active contributor to the preservation and rehabilitation of the continent’s historical and cultural heritage, via major partnerships such as the Geneva International Music Competition and the Lucerne Festival, as well as in its capacity as a leading patron of the arts. Breguet has committed itself to an unprecedented programme of restoration of the Petit Trianon, located on the grounds of the Palais de Versailles, for which Nicolas G. hayek was honoured as an exceptionally distinguished benefactor of French culture with the award of the Gold Medal of Grand Mécène de la Culture française.

Creating today for tomorrow, drawing on the past ceaselessly to innovate – the daily challenge for Manufacture Breguet and its teams of talented designers, engineers and master watchmakers. Tenacious insistence on perfection in all things and quality as a way of life more than ever validate Breguet’s position as prime vector of the renewal of prestige watchmaking and as its distinguished symbol. Of this and much else no better demonstration exists than the new entries at this year’s Baselworld Watch and Jewellery Show.

BASELWORLD 2007 ~ THE WATCH AND JEWELLERY SHOW

BREGUET ~ SHAPER OF TIME, MASTER OF COMPLICATIONS

    2007 Product Trends

Breguet’s Basel Show entries this year salute some of the most fascinating aspects of the brand’s centuries of horological expertise, today brilliantly perpetuated by its contemporary watchmakers. Their force includes the design of models endowed with a distinctive personality fully respectful of Montres Breguet’s product philosophy and corporate universe.

Their latest demonstration is the TRADITION line, launched two years ago. Instantly acclaimed by the industry and market alike, its design both honours the firm’s deepest roots and embodies a pioneering vision of horology. Its latest entry fulfils its every promise. The CLASSIQUE line this year includes new complication watches, all of which reach new levels of inventiveness and technological excellence. The MARINE line for its part is adding to its chronographs while the stunning egg-shaped REINE DE NAPLES line continues to enchant women with all manner of breathtaking horological wonders, emphasising Haute Horlogerie’s unique splendour.

The year 2007 throws new, ever brighter light on the art of Breguet, its innate creativity and innovative instincts. Never have its sense of detailing and flawless finish been so obvious, nor its capacity to devise intricate mechanisms and ingenious complications, let alone its propensity to set itself and to conquer new challenges – not to mention its way of rewriting the laws of Haute Horlogerie.

    MARINE 5827 Chronograph

This year, the MARINE 5827 Chronograph features a pink gold case whose subtle hue adds to the design’s thoroughbred character. Its artfully engine-turned dial features a totalizer for minutes and seconds at centre providing an instantly legible readout. A 12-hour totalizer and a subdial for the running seconds are positioned at 6 and at 9 o’clock respectively. A date calendar at 6 o’clock and a sector-shaped readout of the last 15 minutes complete the watch’s time information. Applied numerals in pink gold and luminescent dots divide a dial swept by traditional BREGUET open-tipped hands, also in pink gold and coated with luminescent compound. The transparent caseback reveals the full beauty of the selfwinding movement’s impeccable finish and gold oscillating weight. Its accuracy and elegance can be completed by a pink gold bracelet or else by a black rubber or black leather strap.
