DESCRIPTION

  • PanoMaticLunar

A fresh design for a superb timepiece

Among the newly designed Pano editions debuting at Baselworld 2012 are three new versions of the PanoMaticLunar from high-end German watchmaker, Glashütte Original. The company’s in-house designers have created a noticeably larger, cylindrical case for its mechanical timepieces, all of which come from its Glashütte manufactory. The case and a somewhat slimmer bezel combine to provide a spacious stage for a fresh, contemporary design approach.

The second stainless steel edition presents the dial visuals in a striking grey setting - a ruthenium dial with applied silver (rhodium) indexes and white gold hour, minute and subsidiary seconds hands. The Panorama Date display features white numerals on a grey ground, while the moon phase shows a silver moon and stars set against a silvery night sky.

The PanoMaticLunar is powered by the manufactory’s superb Calibre 90-02, a self-winding 47-jewel mechanical movement with a power reserve of 42 hours. The case back’s sapphire crystal provides a clear view of the finely finished movement, including the typical Glashütte three-quarter plate with Glashütte ribbing, off-centre skeletonized 21-ct gold rotor, blued screws, and hand-engraved balance cock with duplex swan neck fine adjustment. The new PanoMaticLunar editions are fitted with Louisiana alligator straps; colours and finish vary with the models.

The Pano line is distinguished by its signature asymmetric dial visuals, which the new design retains and refines as it adapts the approach to the different models. The effect is impressive, and easily appreciated with a glance at the new PanoMaticLunar, which presents the characteristic off-centre visuals in a clearly sophisticated, simpler array. The hour/minute and subsidiary seconds dials remain aligned along a vertical axis to the left of centre, while the Panorama Date and superb moon phase display are positioned to the lower and upper right, respectively. The placement of the dials has been determined in accordance with the divine proportion, otherwise known as the golden ratio, the legendary law of aesthetic harmony that has fascinated artists, musicians and architects throughout history. In 2012, three variations of the PanoMaticLunar present the new design. The red gold edition takes the lead, featuring a warm silver dial with rosé gold hour, minute and seconds hands and rosé gold hour indexes, housed in a red gold case. The striking moon phase display shows a gold moon and gold stars set against a deep blue night sky.

Two versions present these spectacular new visuals in a polished and satin-brushed stainless steel case. One features a warm silver dial with silver hour indexes beneath blued steel hour, minute and seconds hands, complemented by the characteristic Panorama Date and by the moon phase display showing a silver moon and stars against a dark blue night sky.
