The Cadenas watch, adorned with precious stones

The Cadenas™ collection, whose bold and distinctive aesthetic has stood the test of time, is this year enhanced with two jewelry models. Faithful to the watch’s original aesthetic, they adorn the wrist with a double snake chain and are embellished with precious stones. The pink gold version is enlivened with princess-cut rubies on the upper part of the case and the clasp. Their flamboyant color contrasts with the motherof- pearl dial, whose 12 hour-markers make telling the time easy. On the dazzling second model, white gold combines with diamonds in serti neige style setting to bring brilliance and life to the case, dial and clasp. This piece is further enhanced by the deep green hue of princess-cut emeralds, highlighting the graphic lines of the watch.

A watchmaking icon of Van Cleef & Arpels

Born in 1935, the Cadenas watch – like the Zip necklace – is said to have been inspired by the Duchess of Windsor, one of the Maison’s leading clients. Its avant-garde design combines the pure straight lines of the case with a rounded clasp to evoke the shape of a padlock, a symbol of attachment. Thanks to its double snake chain, it can be worn as a bracelet while an inclined dial enables the time to be read with discretion. In the 1930s and 40s, colored stones embellished it with dazzling notes of color. Today, the Maison pays homage to this aesthetic with two new creations that underline the timeless, precious aspect of this iconic watch.
