Diamonds meet ceramics for the most feminine of all professional diving watches.
Right from the time of their introduction in 2007, the Master Compressor Diving Lady watches signalled the end of the dilemma between performance and refinement. Active, sporty ladies can now adorn their wrist with a professional and highly reliable instrument, while not renouncing nothing of their taste for elegance. Jaeger-LeCoultre’s ladies’ marine-inspired line is now reinforcing the technical side of its nature by appearing clad in a new black ceramic case. Slightly larger and subtly slenderer, it accentuates the unique design of the Master Compressor Diving Lady watches. The designers of the Manufacture have teamed this innovative material with a black dial, the first in the collection, featuring a delicately contrasting effect that enhances the aesthetic equilibrium and the readability of the indications. The dial details are lit up by the presence of 16 diamonds set on the diving bezel. This harmony between form and function affirms the essential values of the diving world according to Jaeger-LeCoultre: the fascination of beauty and the assurance of peerless reliability.
The advent of ceramics
In 2008, the Grande Maison in the Vallée de Joux presented two ceramic models: on the one hand, the rectangular case of the Reverso Squadra World Chronograph Polo Fields, and on the other, the round case of the AMVOX3 Tourbillon GMT, two watch creations visibly radiating a sporty aura. Nonetheless, since the Manufacture has always been a pioneer in the field of ladies’ watches, it is hardly surprising that it has chosen to focus the first introduction of ceramics on the Master Compressor Diving line intended for all women who wish to combine seductive charm and sporting spirit. In this respect, the ceramics used in timepieces by the Manufacture Jaeger-LeCoultre has what it takes to enable the watch to withstand the most varied demands and wearing conditions, thanks to its exemplary sturdiness.
While fully maintaining the powerful visual identity of this collection, the new case is slightly larger, measuring 39 millimetres instead of 38, while its thickness has been reduced from 14.05 to 13.27 millimetres.
The choice of the intense black colour provided an opportunity to rework the aesthetic codes of this new diver’s watch. While it has obviously inherited the genetic makeup of the line and inspired by the other models in the collection, its maritime, sports-driven origins are now conveyed by a dial featuring striking black and white contrasts. In this creation, beauty accentuates functionality and performance is expressed through elegance.
The first black dial in the collection
In a remarkably legible display, the dial presents all the functions required for a professional diver’s watch. The trapeze-shape central hour and minute hands are coated with a luminescent substance, while the metallic applied hour-marker and numerals stand out clearly against a black background. On either side of the dial, two complementary indications face each other in classic Manufacture Jaeger-LeCoultre style: the date at 3 o’clock occupies a central position in an opening shaped like the arc of a circle; while the ever popular dual time-zone appears on a 24-hour subdial at 9 o’clock. Since refinement is essentially a question of detail, this display features one of the signature characteristics of the Master Compressor Diving Lady line: a wind rose evoking the old-time navigating instruments and the history of the great maritime discoveries. The movement operating indicator which is an indispensable part of any diver’s watch appears through a particularly original triple-aperture window that serves to follow the rotation of a two-tone disc pivoting in an original and contemporary interpretation of the small seconds display.
The lacquered steel unidirectional diver’s bezel is equipped with a protection mechanism against inadvertent rotation. This mechanism, along with the luminescent coating on the triangular-shaped index, serves to avoid any mistake in dive-time calculations. Meanwhile, since even the sportiest women are sensitive to the timeless fascination of precious stones, the bezel is set with full-cut diamonds that illuminate the black and white symphony of the dial with dazzling
radiance.
Jewellery-watch and precision instrument
Like all professional diver’s watches, the Master Compressor Diving Lady Céramique meets the set of technical specifications laid down by the NIHS (Swiss Watch Industry Norms), particularly in relation to luminescence, watertightness and shock resistance. The reassuring presence of the compression key, which ensures total security by supercharging a joint, testifies to its belonging to the Master Compressor line. Water-resistant to 100 metres and teamed with a black rubber strap on a steel frame, a black satin strap or a black ceramic wristband, the case is fitted with a screw-lock sapphire case-back that ensures more regular pressure on the joint than a back secured with screws, and also reveals the beauty of the entirely hand-decorated movement, Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 971 D. This worthy representative of the latest generation of automatic movements by the Manufacture, equipped with a balance oscillating at a rate of 28,800 vibrations per hour and endowed with a 48-hour power reserve, incorporates a set of avant-garde technical solutions guaranteeing absolute reliability.
The all black and white-clad Master Compressor Diving Lady Céramique is the diver’s watch for women who refuse to choose between sport and seduction, refinement and exploits. To successfully handle the multiple activities of their daily lives, they need a professional instrument with a face equally suited to the demands of deep-sea diving and to those of a romantic tryst. Admirably reflecting the nature of contemporary women, the new Master Compressor Diving Lady Céramique marries innate presence and outstanding performance, since technical prowess and aesthetic elegance are inextricably entwined within the Jaeger-LeCoultre philosophy.
