AUDEMARS PIGUET
THERE ARE EXCEPTIONS TO EVERY RULE
Ever since it was established in 1875, Audemars Piguet has proved the exception to the rule of women’s timepiece creations. The Manufacture from Le Brassus has been crafting complicated watches for women for over 130 years, combining engineering excellence with an understanding of aesthetics characterising each style changing era. Throughout those decades of change, it has created contemporary designs suited to the evolving nature of women’s lives. Audemars Piguet has always recognised that women require timepieces that are reliable, expertly crafted and beautiful to wear.
2015 : NEW EDITIONS
Complexity is revealed in the Manufacture’s new women’s collections for 2015. Stylish, technical and with a strong feminine identity, the new Millenary line is powered by the 5201 hand-wound Manufacture movement, creating a luxury timepiece suited to the style of independent women today.
That same attitude has been applied to the creation of this year’s Diamond Punk Haute Joaillerie – a stunning cuff watch set with over 8,000 diamonds. This exceptional design not only highlights the traditional savoir-faire of Le Brassus, it displays how it is constantly refining its gem-setting and high jewellery techniques to create truly cutting-edge pieces.
The Manufacture’s creative use of materials also comes into play this year with the launch of a handsome new women’s two-tone Royal Oak, presented in steel and pink gold for the first time.
THE MILLENARY WOMAN
20 years since it was first created, the Millenary is an intricately considered design that reflects the multi-layered nature of the woman who wears it.This elegant new addition to the Millenary collection looks different. It challenges perceptions of what women’s watch design can be today.
THE NEW MOVEMENT
Three years in the making, its slim, elegant form is a salute to the aesthetic balance that is achieved when old-world artisanship meets new-world design. The new caliber, a hand–wound Manufacture movement where the balance wheel is revealed, beats at the heart of the 2015 Millenary pieces. Its form has been created to fit exactly the intriguing oval case shape that defines the Millenary, a design that follows perfectly, ergonomically, the curves of the wrist. A beautifully engineered timepiece, it has been carefully composed for women by Audemars Piguet’s designers and watchmakers. Its seemingly delicate form belies the Millenary strength : complexity revealed.
DESIGNS FOR LIFE
With the new Millenary collection, the Manufacture enhances its reputation for creating women’s watches that are not simply considered for their aesthetic quality but that are designed from the inside out.
Back at the turn of the 20th century, Audemars Piguet women’s timepieces were highly sought after not just as aesthetic adornment, but more importantly as designs, well thought out and in tune with modern sensibilities. Technically conceived and artfully decorated, the Manufacture offered women watches that were inspired by the influences of modern culture, in the likes of Art Nouveau or Art Deco movements.
This conceptual approach to women’s designs is summed up by a timepiece unveiled at the 1920 Geneva trade show. Its fine jewellery aesthetic was impressive but the forward-thinking design at that time, intrigued further. It was made to be worn in several ways : on the wrist or as a pendant. Even more compelling, the timepiece housed a minute-repeater mechanism. Ever since, Audemars Piguet has continued to consider the technical elements of women’s watches while never losing sight of a desire to wear beautiful timepieces.
AN INDEPENDENT SPIRIT
Audemars Piguet women’s watch designs not only echo women’s changing lifestyles but reflect their character. Today that way of thinking continues – the form and concept of the Millenary is inspired by the influences of modern culture, such as architecture and art. The subtle balance between high watchmaking and high jewellery savoir-faire gives the Millenary its unique character.
The 2015 Millenary collection is designed to accent the style of the Audemars Piguet woman but never to eclipse it.
