Oris is an independent Swiss company that produces some of the world’s most innovative diver’s watches, with pioneering functions that make a real contribution to a diver’s kit bag.
 
The latest of these is in the Oris Aquis Date, a high-spec diver’s watch that’s also designed for the high life. Its unique feature is its eye-catching cermet bezel inlay, a luxurious finish that – in keeping with Oris’s real-world philosophy – is far more than just an aesthetic detail.
 
It’s made of a material called cermet, a metal and ceramic alloy that combines the structural integrity of ceramic with the allure of gold. It has the lightweight, scratch-resistant properties that have made ceramic such a popular material choice in luxury diver’s watches, and also the dressy, summer-party looks of an evening wear watch. Rose gold-plated hands and indices and a white rubber strap complete the glamorous look.
 
But this being an Aquis, it is still a high-performance watch designed for divers who can depend on underwater. Its 36mm stainless steel case is water-resistant to 30 bar/300 metres, and that bezel only rotates in an anticlockwise direction, a safety feature Oris builds into all its diver’s watches that guarantees a diver can never inadvertently extend the dive time.
 
Oris only makes mechanical watches, and the Aquis Date is powered by an automatic mechanical movement. The movement, complete with Oris’s signature Red Rotor, is visible through a sapphire crystal case back.
