THE SNOW SETTING INVITES ITSELF INTO THE RICHARD MILLE COLLECTIONS
Under the expert hands of the gem setters, the Richard Mille women's collections are adorned with a thousand lights. The technique known as "snow setting" offers a voluptuous effect to cases, dials and bracelets that seem to have emerged straight from an enchanting winter setting.
Diamonds, rubies, emeralds, tsavorites, sapphires, opals, hematites... Whatever the stones chosen, the different setting techniques reveal all their secrets. Selected according to the shape of the watch, the surfaces to be covered and the desired brilliance, the types of setting - whether pavé, invisible or grained - magnify these gems. Their reflections dance with the light and the watch thus adorned becomes a precious and intimate ally with an almost carnal allure.
The snow setting is endowed with a touch of originality brought about by the apparent disorder of the stones' positioning. Like the random shimmering of snow crystals under the sun's rays, this technique gives the various Mille watches that use it a shimmering effect, a natural glow.
Placed side by side on the chosen material, the stones, of different sizes, are held in place by grains raised by the craftsman, until they cover the entire surface. The difficulty lies in the choice and arrangement of the stones, while playing with their different diameters, which range from 0.5 to 1.6 mm. The stones must be set to the nearest micron while transmitting the illusion of randomness. With the snow setting, the boldness and experience of the setter speak for themselves.
Each stone is unique, and so is each setting. By adapting to the volumes of the watch to magnify its sensual curves, this setting underlines the artistic dimension present in the collections, notably on different interpretations of the RM 07-01 and RM 037. In honour of this technique, the brand is presenting a full snow-set version in white gold with diamond paving on the bezel that extends onto the dial. The beauty of the diamonds, combined with the brilliance of the metal, form a dazzling winter motif.
