DESCRIPTION

  • Serpenti by Bulgari: a symbol of eternity on the wrist… or on the forearm !

A timeless embodiment of values shared by many different cultures, the image of the serpent is bound up with that of civilizations, just as it is with that of Bvlgari – a House that treats this symbol of eternal youth to perpetual rebirth, as confirmed by the new Serpenti watch. One, two and now up to seven coils around the wrist in 2011… The iconic Serpenti watch pays a renewed tribute to history, by uniting Bvlgari and Womanhood, and to the beauty that both consistently cultivate in a spirit of natural affinities…

This new model explores the boundaries between watchmaking and jewellery, in harmony with the creations bearing the Bvlgari signature over several decades. Featuring constant and talented reinterpretations of this sinuous reptile, they brilliantly combine a whole palette of hand-crafted jewellery, enamelling, goldsmithing and watchmaking techniques in giving life to a powerful, totally unique and incomparable style signature. This charismatic incarnation of eternity is expressed through daringly pure formal research.

A symbol of earth and water, of knowledge and fertility, of immortality and renaissance, together with many other connotations, the archetype of the snake has found its way throughout human history, from the neolithic age to the contemporary era. The inexhaustible wealth of this representation of the mythological bestiary is an integral and long-established part of the Bvlgari universe: ever since the late 1940s, through an infinite range of variations marrying multicoloured enamels and precious stones, gold and coloured gemstones, the snake has become a recurrent jewellery and watchmaking theme in the jeweller’s creations. The figure of the reptile, the symbol of eternal youth, lies at the very core of the aesthetic universe of Bvlgari, which has effectively ensured its perpetual renaissance for over sixty years.

A source of countless interpretations, the effigy of the serpent is associated with another of the brand’s trademark creations, the Tubogas bracelet. Coiled around the wrist, the sensual and playful Tubogas was developed by Bvlgari in the 1950s and has remained unique to this day. At once a stylistic signature and the fruit of patient hand workmanship, it testifies to a wealth of know-how exclusive to the jewellery House. The steel or gold braid composing it may be as long as five metres per coil around the wrist, meaning 35 metres for the Serpenti 7 coils model in rose gold. This braid undergoes a lengthy set of manually executed preparatory operations and shaping operations, before being finally assembled according to a procedure solely mastered by Bvlgari and resulting in an authentic second skin.

The body of this exceptional bracelet is naturally extended by the curved and polished case of the watch, a formal stylised evocation of the snake symbol and which houses a Swiss quartz movement customised for Bvlgari. As a reminder of the jewellery origins of the House, this precious yellow gold or polished steel creation featuring a silvered dial with a sunburst finish may be set with 38 brilliant-cut diamonds around the rim (0.29 cts), depending on the version, and is embellished by a crown set with a rubellite cabochon.

In a highly symbolic final touch, this sparkling masterpiece flows around the forearm in its ultimate version comprising seven rose gold coils: the 38 diamonds set bezel (0,293cts) surrounds the 190 diamonds set dial (0,82ct). The timeless portrayal of the snake embodied by Serpenti thereby takes on its full iconic dimension, elevating the natural charisma of this jewellery masterpiece to unprecedented heights.
