The first de GRISOGONO tourbillon, a sparkling, technical creation
The brand offers its first ever interpretation of the highly sophisticated tourbillon complication, and does so in a model dedicated to women. The diamond-swathed Tondo Tourbillon Gioiello houses an exclusive new in-house developed and assembled de GRISOGONO mechanical movement, fitted with an off-centred tourbillon at 8 o’clock. The collection takes the form of a trilogy comprising models set with black, brown or white diamonds. These boldly designed timepieces, stemming from advanced research, reflect the inimitable contemporary baroque style cultivated by de GRISOGONO – a perfect blend of exceptional technical mastery and jewellery artistry.
The Tondo Tourbillon Gioiello is an haute horlogerie gem epitomising a refined jewellery spirit allied with the most extreme horological complexity. As brand President and Founder Fawaz Gruosi explains: “de GRISOGONO has been dedicated to women for almost two decades, offering them glamour along with exceptional expertise. Today, they are bound to succumb to the technical beauty of the first de GRISOGONO tourbillon, destined exclusively for them”. The splendid collection is interpreted in three versions: one with white diamonds, a second with brown diamonds, and a third with the brand’s signature black diamonds.
The Tondo Tourbillon Gioiello illustrates the brand’s ever-growing mastery of the art of time measurement. This model introduces the first ever in-house mechanical hand-wound movement equipped with a tourbillon, unusually positioned at 8 o’clock. The tourbillon is an extreme horological complication that serves to compensate for the effects of gravity when a timepiece is in vertical positions, in order to optimise its precision. Created in 1801 by Abraham-Louis Breguet for a pocket watch, this delicate and complex mechanism has consistently inspired watchmakers in search of perfection.
The exclusive DG 31-88 calibre specially designed by de GRISOGONO makes a perfect fit with the oval-shaped Tondo XL case. Exquisitely covered with brown, white or black mother-of-pearl, the various parts of the main plate serve as the dial. The bridges, tourbillon carriage and barrel, all developed in-house, are also clearly visible. This watch with its 72-hour power reserve displays the hours and minutes.
The new de GRISOGONO movement is exquisitely enhanced with various finely crafted technical details. The hand-polished and bevelled structural components reflect the noble traditions of fine horological finishes. On the underside of the calibre, experts will inevitably recognise the famous Côtes de Genève motif, and the brand signature and its coat-of-arms are engraved on the barrel ratchet-wheel at 12 o’clock.
The white gold case is water-resistant to 30 metres and sparkles with more than 8 carats of diamonds, running along the sides and all the way up to the lugs. The so-called “four grain” gemsetting technique keeps the quantity of metal beneath the gems to an absolute minimum, thereby intensify the sparkling reflections. 33 larger sized diamonds frame the bezel and endow it with remarkable radiance, while the brand’s emblematic deep black diamond adorns the crown. The natural diamonds are of D to E colour and VVS clarity.
The polished dauphine hands are in white or pink gold. The Galuchat strap, another famous de GRISOGONO signature feature, comes in white, brown or black according to the versions, and sets the perfect final touch to this exceptional exercise in watchmaking adornment.
